SC grants interim bail to Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan; not allowed media interaction
The Supreme Court on Monday granted 5-day interim bail to Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan to visit his ailing mother. He was arrested on his way to Hathras.

Supreme Court on Monday granted 5-day interim bail to Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan to visit his ailing mor. He was arrested on his way to Hathras where a young Dalit woman h died after being allegedly gang-raped. A bench heed by Chief Justice SA Bobde, however, said that during his visit he shall t give any interview to media, including social media.

According to PTI, Senior vocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ), stated that Kappan's mor could t talk on video conference and doctors have said she might live only for two or three more days.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Uttar Presh government, said however that condition of Kappan's mor was t as serious as was being projected and medical certificates are provided. "re are posters in Kerala and wife of Kappan is collecting money in his name as if he is a martyr... When he goes to Kerala to visit his mor political opinions would be formed," Mehta said.

bench said it was taking Sibal's statements on face value and "we will t allow him (Kappan) to be pared and he will go to his house under protection of armed guards". Siddique Kappan was arrested on October 5 last year at atoll plaza in Uttar Presh on his way to Hathras.
On vember 16 last year, top court h sought a response from Uttar Presh government on plea challenging arrest of journalist on his way to Hathras. Sibal h sought bail for journalist saying that re was thing against him in FIR lodged at Mathura by UP Police.

FIR has been filed under various provisions of IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against four people having alleged links with Popular Front of India, or PFI. PFI h been accused in past of funding protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) across country earlier this year.
