With eight rounds of talks between Centre and farmers failing to breakthrough, Supreme Court will hear pleas challenging Centre's Farm Laws and pleas on issues related to ongoing farmers' protest at Delhi borders. This hearing comes after CJI Shar Arvind Bobde asked if necessary precautions were taken at protest site leing to a ' Nizamuddin Markaz-like event' amid ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. next round of talks between farmers and Centre is scheduled on January 15.

SC to hear pleas against farm laws & protest on Monday
In last hearing, Supreme Court said, "We understand situation and encour consultation. We can journ matters on Monday (January 11) if you submit same due to ongoing consultation process," after Centre assured that "healthy discussions" were going on between government and unions, pointing that SC intervention would hamper talks. On Saturday, a farmers' body, Consortium of Indian Farmers Associations (CIFA), moved top court in support of three laws and sought implement in matter. Farmers have refused to challenge laws, telling Centre ir 'ghar waapsi' will happen only after 'law waapsi'.
Previously on December 17, SC h refused to stay farmers protest stating that agitation should be allowed to continue “without impediment” and this court will t “interfere” with it as right to protest is a fundamental right. Meanwhile on Friday, farm leers said that Centre told m that issue is best resolved by Supreme Court, however, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar did t comment on it. Centre has agreed t to penalise farmers for stubble burning and to continue present mechanism of giving subsided electricity for agricultural use, but refused to repeal laws.

If Centre does t budge, farmers have decided to celebrate festival of Lohri on January 13 by burning copies of newly introduced agriculture laws and a massive tractor rally on January 26 towards Delhi. farmers have stayed firm on ir demand of total repeal of Farm acts, stating a 'lack of trust' on Modi government, rejecting clause-to-clause discussion on laws as ir one-point demand was a repeal of laws. farm union leers were sent a 10-point proposal by Centre assuring to give written guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), empowering states to create a law which will prevent misuse of trers' registration, continuing current electricity bill payment done by government and amend stubble burning penalty clause.
