Supreme Court is scheduled to prounce on Thursday its verdict on criminal contempt plea filed against Congress leer Rahul Gandhi by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi for wrongly attributing to apex court his "chowkidar chor hai" remark in Rafale case against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gandhi h me remarks on April 10, day apex court h dismissed Centre's preliminary objections over missibility of certain documents for supporting review petitions against December 14 last year verdict in Rafale case.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph h on May 10 reserved judgement. Gandhi, who was n President of Congress Party, h told bench that he has alrey tendered unconditional apology for wrongly attributing remarks relating to Prime Minister to apex court.
Senior vocate A M Singhvi, appearing for Gandhi, h told bench, that Congress leer expressed regret over wrongful attribution to apex court. Senior vocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Lekhi, h submitted that apology tendered by Gandhi should be rejected and action must be taken against him as per law.
Rohatgi also argued that court should ask Gandhi to make an apology to public for his remarks. Gandhi h on May 8 tendered unconditional apology in apex court for wrongfully attributing to it his "chowkidar chor hai" remark in Rafale verdict and said that he holds top court in "highest esteem and respect" and any attributions to it were "entirely unintentional, n-wilful and invertent".
three-p affidavit was filed by n Congress president after he h drawn flak from apex court on April 30 over his earlier affidavit in which he h t directly mitted his mistake for incorrectly attributing allegedly contemptuous remark to top court. Lekhi filed contempt plea against Gandhi for "chowkidar chor hai" remarks against Modi, which top court h said were incorrectly attributed to it.

apex court on April 15 h given a categorical clarification that in its Rafale verdict re was occasion for it to make a mention of contemptuous observation that "chowkidar Narendra Modi chor hain" as has been attributed to it by Gandhi. Gandhi, in his explanation filed in court earlier, h said that his statement was me in "heat of political campaigning" and re was t "slightest intention to insinuate" anything regarding Supreme Court proceedings in any manner.
He h said that his April 10 statement was me in purely political context to counter "misinformation campaign" being led by senior BJP functionaries as well as government that apex court verdict of December 14 last year was a "clean chit" to Centre regarding all aspects of Rafale deal.
