Taking clue from Kerala, DMK urges govt to pass resolution against CAA in Assembly session

Five DMK MLAs on Thursday gave a representation to Tamil Nadu Assembly Secretary K Srinivasan for adopting a resolution against CAA in next Assembly session

Welcoming Kerala Assembly opting a resolution demanding scrapping of Citizenship Amendment Act, DMK on Thursday in Assembly urged ruling AIMK to go in for a similar move in Tamil Nu against contentious Citizenship Amendment Act.

Ever since Citizenship Amendment Act was introduced as a bill in Parliament, principal opposition party opposed bill in both houses and called it unconstitutional. DMK voted against bill, approached SC against CAA and have also conducted protests in many areas of Tamil Nu in last two weeks for t including Muslims and Sri Lankan Tamils in bill.

After Kerala assembly passed a resolution against CAA, DMK president MK Stalin appreciated Kerala Chief Minister Vijayan and also welcomed move. Stalin stated that Tamil Nu assembly should also go for a similar move against CAA. He also said that he will insist Tamil Nu Chief Minister Edappi Palaniswami  to pass a resolution against CAA and insist Centre to revoke act.

Based on it, five DMK MLAs on Thursday gave a representation to Tamil Nu Assembly Secretary K Srinivasan for opting a resolution against Citizenship Amendment Act in upcoming session of assembly, as next session begins on January 6. session is expected to be stormy as all opposition party leers are expected to urge government to opt a resolution.

However, AIMK is firm that y are t going to step back from ir stand since y alrey voted in favour of CAB in both houses. AIDMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan said, "An act cant be revoked once it is passed or implemented and DMK is t even aware of it, state assembly's resolution can't do anything once law is enacted." "This move of DMK is unconstitutional, this is what we can expect from DMK and its leer MK Stalin who has deep understanding of constitution," said BJP spokesperson Narayana Thirupathi.
