Tamil Nadu govt partially reverses liquor order; TASMAC shops to remain closed in Chennai
A notification issued on Tuesday morning mentioned that state-owned TASMAC shops will not be opening in capital Chennai, but will open in the rest of the state

In a partial reversal from earlier order, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIMK)-led Tamil Nu government on Tuesday anunced that TASMAC shops which sell liquor in state will t be opening in Chennai on May 7. liquor shops, however, will be open in rest of state Thursday onwards.

TASMAC shops to t open in Chennai
A tification issued on Tuesday morning stated that state-owned Tamil Nu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) will t be opening in capital city, but will open in rest of state.
Tamil Nu has reported 3,550 cases and 31 deaths due to virus. Chennai has reported more than 1,100 cases of coronavirus and state government came under fire by opposition leers for deciding to reopen shops, fearing overcrowding and thus, spre of virus.

On Monday evening, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President MK Stalin has criticised Tamil Nu government for deciding to reopen TASMAC shops, saying that reopening of shops is a decision that will t help to stop spre of coronavirus and that it is t public's fault that revenues have fallen. Stalin also said that it's a dangerous decision and that a government with concerns for citizens would t have taken such a decision. Kamal Haasan similarly criticised Tamil Nu government.

state government earned a whopping Rs 31,157 crores from sale of liquor in 2018/19 and it is one of major sources of revenue generation for government.
