Telangana: Female doctor alleges manhandling by cop during COVID-19 curfew

Amid the deadly COVID-19 outbreak, a doctor was allegedly manhandled by a Telangana cop while she was going to the hospital for an emergency case during curfew

Amid dely coronavirus outbreak, a female doctor was allegedly manhandled by a Telangana cop while she was going to hospital for an emergency case during curfew hours in state. Earlier, Telangana government h anunced a complete lockdown in state till March 31 in view of vel coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak.

Speaking to media Dr. Himabindhu said, "I was called for an emergency so I h to report to duty. On my way, I was stopped by police officers at night. I showed my ID but he ceased my ID. He also took my phone. He manhandled me. I h explained that I am a doctor and it is time to attending duties. But Khammam Cop Ganesh dragged me to police station. re were women police officials."

"I gave a complaint in morning in two town police station with help of or doctors. police officer has given a written apology," she said.

Ar doctor from same district said that y are serving 24 hours at coronavirus ward for past 15 days. He alleged that same cop h stopped him at a checkpoint.

"When I informed him about an emergency at hospital as a doctor I am going re. He replied in an abusive manner using unparliamentary langu and came close to slap. We as a doctor condemn this act and demand an immediate apology," doctor said.

India under lockdown

In his dress to nation on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi anunced a 21-day lockdown across country effective from midnight of March 25 in a bid to contain spre of dely virus, saying that "social distancing" is only option to deal with disease, which spres rapidly.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India has reported over 536 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19; 11 people have died so far due to dely virus.
