TSRTC Row: CPI holds 'Chalo DGP office' protest in support of workers

CPI leers on Tuesday, October 29, std a protest and called for a 'Chalo DGP office' campaign in support of Telangana State Ro Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employees who are on a strike in Hyderab. " RTC employees' strike which is currently underway is legal and government is t rey to listen to court and t following directions of court. y should solve matter by following court directions because around 48,000 RTC employees are involved in strike", Cha Venkat Reddy, CPI Secretary told ANI.
Reddy ded, "Today (October 29) we have std a protest in solidarity with RTC employees and given a 'Chalo DGP office' call. If police allow n we will meet Telangana DGP."

About RTC employees' strike
Over 48,000 RTC employees have been on an indefinite strike that started on October 5, against State government to have employees’ demands met. strike saw participation of activists, leers of opposition parties, tre unions, teachers and workers joining protest against what y called a 'dictatorial' attitude of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. state-wide bandh h been called by RTC employees and joint action committee (JAC) of various unions. To d to its intensity, Ola and Uber cab drivers h also gone on an indefinite strike to press ir demands of regularizing cab aggregator market in which nearly 50,000 cabs h gone off ros as claimed by drivers' association.

High Court directed to hold negotiations between two parties
Telangana High court h insisted RTC to hold talks with its protesting employees and h directed state government and protestors to settle all disputes before October 28. Lawyers of government h earlier ruled out possibility of any negotiation, but later agreed to hold talks with protestors after High Court’s directives to attend to protesters and negotiate since nearly half of demands did t have any financial obligation.

RTC’s Managing Director, Sunil Sharma stated that RTC was rey to discuss 21 demands upon High Courts directive, but unions wanted to hold discussions on all ir grievances which included merger of RTC with government which was t acceptable to RTI. Hence union did t agree to furr discussions and left venue. Four RTC workers have committed suicide since strike began.
