Unidentified female body found floating in Delhi's drain, police initiates probe

DCP Joy N Tirkey said that the dead body was noticed in an open drain near Sardar Patel School located in Karawal Nagar area.

An unidentified dead body of a girl has been recovered from an open drain in North East Delhi’s Karawal Nagar area. The incident surfaced at around 4.30 pm on Wednesday sending a shock wave in the area.

On information of the incident, the police team rushed to the spot and shifted the body to a mortuary, after fishing out the body from the drain. It was observed that the deceased was of the age 25 to 30 years.

Police are trying to identify the deceased

A case has been registered by the police in the matter and an investigation has been initiated. The police are also trying to identify the victim.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast Delhi), Joy N Tirkey said that the dead body was noticed in an open drain near Sardar Patel School located in Karawal Nagar area.

DCP Tirkey said, “On December, 27, at 4.32 pm, a call was received regarding a female dead body in ganda nala, near Sardar Patel School, which comes under the Karawal Nagar police station area.”

“The decomposed dead body was fished out of the nala. The deceased is an unknown female aged about 25-30 years. The crime and forensics team visited the place of occurrence and inspected the area. The dead body was shifted to GTB Mortuary for post mortem examination,” the police official added.

A case has been registered in the matter and efforts are being made to identify the deceased and cause of her death.
