Three policemen, including a sub-inspector, were injured when a group of people attacked a team which had gone to a village in Shamli district to arrest an accused in a cow slaughter case, officials said on Wednesday. The incident took place on Tuesday night in Taprana village under the Jhinjhana police station in Shamli, the added.
A case has been registered against 100 people under various sections of IPC and 30 of them have been arrested so far, Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal said. The police team had gone to arrest accused Afzal when some villagers started pelting stones and managed to free him, Jaiswal said. Later, extra personnel were deployed and 30 people, including Afzal, were arrested, the SP said, adding that security has been tightened in the village.
