On Friday, vocate Ashwini Kumar Uphyay filed a writ petition in  Supreme Court seeking concrete action on Vohra Committee Report submitted in 1993. Heed by former Union Secretary Home Secretary NN Vohra, committee was set by Centre to examine alleged link between crime syndicates and government functionaries and political personalities. Mentioning that report h recommended a Nodal Cell to be set up with powers to take stringent action against crime syndicates, petitioner claimed that no follow-up action has been initiated in last 27 years.

Moreover, he pointed out that an incomplete version of report spanning over 100 pages was tabled in Parliament in 1995, leing to doubts over its genuineness. Stressing that citizens have a right to know about complete Vohra report to ensure transparency in governance, Uphyay sought an order from apex court to reveal names of criminals, politicians and public servants against whom re is tangible evidence as per report on Home Ministry website. Moreover, he called for special courts to be set up to expeditiously try such all cases referred to in Vohra report. According to him, it was possible for SC to dress "systemic problem" of criminalization of politics without breaching principle of separation of powers.
