West Bengal: Authorities suspend internet, impose Sec 144 after clashes turn violent

The West Bengal police on Thursday, January 2, imposed prohibitory orders and suspended internet in three panchayat areas of WB's North 24 Parganas district.

West Bengal police on Thursday, January 2, have imposed prohibitory orders and suspended internet in three panchayat areas of West Bengal's rth 24 Parganas district after clashes broke out between two communities. clashes were triggered by 'unnatural' death of a shopkeeper in state. According to reports, internet has been suspended in Duttapukur, Amdanga, and Deganga areas of district. 

Reports stated that clashes broke out in  Duttapukur area on Tuesday evening after a shopkeeper was found hanging inside a room of a local club in Hatkhola area. Furr, twelve persons have been arrested for ir alleged involvement in clashes.

According to reports, shopkeeper was allegedly beaten up by club members after he h a fight with a woman buyer. club h organised a fair where shopkeeper h put up a stall. Later, shopkeeper was found hanging from ceiling room of club. 

Following his death, shopkeeper' relatives vandalised several shops, houses, and vehicles. Along with it, he set m on fire in Hathkola area. As clashes turned violent, police in area resorted to lathi-charge and tear gas to control mob. According to reports, situation is w under control. However, police have said that y will conduct a review and n resume internet services and revoke prohibitory orders.
