Cyclone Alert in Bay of Bengal: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a cyclone alert for the Bay of Bengal, forecasting the formation of a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 23. The alert followed the detection of a cyclonic circulation near the Sumatra coast and the South Andaman Sea. The weather system was predicted to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the central south Bay of Bengal within two days.

The IMD anticipated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh as a result of the evolving weather conditions.

In addition, a cyclonic circulation observed over the Comorin area and its adjoining regions at lower tropospheric levels was expected to contribute to the adverse weather.

IMD's Predicted Heavy Rain

In its latest bulletin, the IMD predicted light to moderate rainfall in Lakshadweep on November 21, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning.

Similar conditions were forecast for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on November 21 and 25, and for Kerala and Mahe on November 25.

Cyclones frequently form in the Bay of Bengal during the post-monsoon season between October and December.

This year, the IMD has closely monitored several such systems, emphasising the importance of early warnings and preparedness to mitigate potential damage in vulnerable coastal areas.
