'Deeply honoured': India to supply COVID vaccines to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal

India would be supplying COVID-19 vaccines to several countries under grant assistance to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Seychelles.

India on January 19 anunced that it would be supplying COVID-19 vaccines to several countries under grant assistance to Bhutan, Maldives, Banglesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Seychelles, from Wednesday. In a statement, Ministry of External Affairs said that nation has received several requests for supply of domestically-produced vaccines from neighbouring nations including key partners. However, MEA also said that it is currently awaiting confirmation of necessary regulatory clearances for Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Mauritius as India has kickstarted mass vaccination drive of two vaccines, Covishield and Covaxin.

MEA said, “ Government of India has received several requests for supply of Indian manufactured vaccines from neighbouring and key partner countries. In response to se requests, and in keeping with India’s stated commitment to use India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity to help all of humanity fight Covid pandemic, supplies under grant assistance to Bhutan, Maldives, Banglesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Seychelles will begin from 20 January 2021.

“In respect of Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Mauritius, we are awaiting ir confirmation of necessary regulatory clearances,” it ded.

PM Modi says India is ‘deeply houred’

Welcoming MEA anuncement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is “deeply houred” and anunced that supplies will commence on January 20. He also expressed delight in meeting public healthcare requirements at international level.

MEA h also informed that before delivery of COVID-19 vaccines, a training programme that would cover ministrative and operational aspects is also being conducted today and tomorrow for “ immunization manrs, cold chain officers, communication officers and data manrs of recipient countries, both at national and provincial levels.”

MEA said, “India h earlier supplied hydroxychloroquine, Remdesivir and paracetamol tablets, as well as diagstic kits, ventilators, masks, gloves and or medical supplies to a large number of countries during COVID19 pandemic."

"In an ongoing effort, India will continue to supply countries all over world with vaccines. This will be calibrated against domestic requirements and international demand and obligations, including under GAVI’s Covax facility to developing countries," it ded.
