India and Australia held the third 2+2 dialogue in New Delhi with a delegation of their foreign and defence secretaries on December 9

India and Australia on Monday, December 9 held ir third 2+2 dialogue in New Delhi with a delegation of ir foreign and defence secretaries where two countries resolved to enhance collaboration in tackling terrorism, violent extremism and meeting or global challenges through increased information sharing.

Indian delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale and Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar while Australian side was heed by Foreign Secretary Frances amson and Defence Secretary Greg Moriarty.

Earlier this year a source informed that main focus will be on bilateral outcomes for Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s visit in January.

Enhance Cooperation

Issues related to bilateral defence engments, enhance cooperation in field of defence industry and defence techlogy, as well as prevailing regional security concerns, were discussed during dialogue. 

Defence Secretary conveyed his satisfaction on ongoing defence engments between two Armed Forces and conveyed commitment of Ministry of Defence to furr enhance defence cooperation engments, both in scope and complexity.

two countries also exchanged views on achieving ir shared objective of peace, prosperity and progress in Indo-Pacific region. two sides emphasised need for enhanced collaboration to counter threat of terrorism and violent extremism through increased information sharing.

2+2 meeting provided opportunities for two sides to review status of ir bilateral relationship in context of emerging scenarios.

Before 2+2 dialogue, both Defence Secretaries held a bilateral meeting as well.

India has put in motion more such dialogues in 2+2 format with Japan and United States at ministerial level. 2+2 dialogue with Japan was held in late vember while 2+2 dialogue with US will be held later this month.
