Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a proposal for admission of girl children in Sainik schools with effect from academic session 2021-22 in a phased manner. The decision has been taken following the success of the pilot project started by the Ministry of Defence for admission of girl children in Sainik School Chhingchhip in Mizoram two years ago. The Defence Minister has directed concerned authorities to ensure availability of necessary infrastructure and sufficient female staff in Sainik schools for smooth implementation of the directive.

A move to strengthen the motto of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao'

The decision is in line with the objective of the Government towards greater inclusiveness, gender equality, enabling greater participation of women in Armed Forces and strengthening the motto of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, propagated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Here is the official press release by the Ministry of Defence:

Amit Shah promoted 'Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao'

A few days back, Union Home Minister and BJP chief Amit Shah, while addressing a huge public meeting in Kaithal, Haryana, stated that the State was infamous across the country that fewer daughters are born here as compared to rest of the country. The Union Home Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had come to Haryana and appealed that 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' should become the slogan of Haryana. Today this State has made the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign worthwhile, Shah further added.

UN Women Hails 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' Campaign

India's 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' initiative has garnered praise from across the world. Last month, an official from UN Women, Anita Bhatia spoke to Republic TV and said that the government policy of ‘Beti Bachao Bet Padhao’ has good intentions. She called for accelerated implementation of the policy and said that a girl’s education is one of the most important elements in bringing about equality. Claiming that the numbers indicating women’s education are "pathetic" in South Asia, Anita Bhatia opined it is not enough that there is a policy in India which promises education. Anita Bhatia also said that she works for a global institution, where they see India as a crucible for innovation and development. She reiterated that if something can work for India it can work for the entire world.
