New Delhi: In a bizarre incident, a thief in Delhi's Laxmi Nagar area stole a vehicle with two children inside and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. The parents had left the car running with the AC on while they visited a nearby confectionery shop. The incident which took place on Friday night triggered a three-hour police chase. The children and the car were eventually recovered, but the thief remains at large.

The incident took place around 11:40 pm when the couple left their two children, aged 2 and 11, inside the running vehicle parked outside Heera Sweets on Laxmi Nagar Vikas Marg. While the parents were buying sweets, a suspect drove off with the car. After returning, the parents found their vehicle and children missing. They immediately contacted the police.

The police swiftly deployed multiple teams to locate and recover the stolen vehicle. SHO Shakarpur and the victim’s mother, along with SHO Laxmi Nagar and the victim’s father, took part in the initial chase.

The thief later demanded a Rs 50 lakh ransom from the children's parents. The police chase spanned 150 to 200 kilometres, eventually forcing the thief to abandon the vehicle. The children were found safe inside the deserted car in the Samaypur Badli area.

Around 20 police vehicles were involved in the pursuit, which lasted three hours. Officials are now scanning CCTV footage to identify and nab the accused.
