Delhi CM Kejriwal recommends three doctors for Padma awards; Know more about them here

Hailing contribution of healthcare workers in fighting COVID pandemic, Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday recommended names of three top doctors for prestigious Pma awards this year. Earlier in July, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal h announced that he would recommend names of doctors for Pma awards and h asked people to send ir recommendations for same as a tribute for ir contributions to society amid COVID pandemic. 

Delhi CM sends names of three doctors for Pma awards

AAP Chief and Delhi CM Kejriwal, during an online media briefing, announced that state government h shortlisted names of doctors S K Sarin, Suresh Kumar, and Sandeep Budhiraja to be recommended for Pma awards this year. 

During briefing, CM Kejriwal noted that doctors, nurses, and or paramedic staff have played a critical role in saving lives of people amid ongoing pandemic, and country honours ir contribution.

"It was extremely difficult to narrow down names as all people whose names were considered have done an exemplary job in fighting pandemic. rest should not feel that ir contribution is any less," Kejriwal said.

shortlisted names are - Dr. S K Sarin who is Vice-Chancellor of ILBS (Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences). Dr. S K Sarin also established first plasma bank and genome sequencing facility of Delhi government.  second name recommended is- LNJP (Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital) Hospital's Medical Director Dr. Suresh Kumar while third is Group Medical Director of Max Healthcare group Dr. Sandeep Budhiraja. 

As per Delhi government, a total of 740 names of doctors, paramedics, and or healthcare professionals were recommended by 9,427 people for awards out of which three names were shortlisted by committee heed by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Arvind Kejriwal. 

Pma Awards 

Every year, Centre asks states to recommend names for Pma awards.  Pma award is one of highest civilian honours bestowed by GoI, announced annually on eve of Republic Day. awards are given in three categories: Pma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Pma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher-order), and Pma Shri (distinguished service). awards seek to recognise achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved.
