Delhi LG Writes To Police Commissioner, Chief Secretary To Crackdown On Rising Illegal Immigrants

New Delhi: Amidst concerns regarding illegal infiltrators in several Indian states, Delhi Lt Governor has asked Delhi Police Commissioner and Chief Secretary of government of Delhi-NCT, to take immediate action against illegal immigrants in national capital. Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena’s office, on Thursday, directed Delhi Chief Secretary, Commissioner of Police (CP) and or senior officials to intensify “monitoring of illegal immigrants” in national capital. A letter from Delhi LG’s office claimed that re are “reliable reports” of a “sudden spurt” in number of illegal immigrants who are falsifying documents to obtain Ahar and voter identification cards.
LG secretariat wrote to top officials of Delhi, including Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and chairperson of New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) to ensure that remedial measures are taken, and asked police to conduct a month-long drive to identify illegal immigrants.

“Hon’ble LG’s attention has been drawn to reports on social media and or reliable sources that re is a sudden spurt in number of illegal immigrants in Delhi… re are reports that efforts are underway for getting ir identity documents such as Ahar, Election ID Card, etc, prepared on basis of fake documents and opting a manipulative process,” stated principal secretary to LG in letter, which ded that se documents are being claimed as citizenship documents.
“Election identity cards, if issued to illegal immigrants, provide m with most powerful right of democracy i.e. right to vote in our country. Giving such rights to illegal immigrants cannot be accepted by any Indian citizen and such moves can even be detrimental to national security,” ded letter.

LG’s office urged police to conduct a month-long drive to identify illegal immigrants, especially among squatter populations, and act in coordination with central agencies. ditionally, it called for heightened scrutiny by district magistrates and divisional commissioners when verifying applications for identity documents.
“All government agencies should also ensure that no unauthorised occupation of public places takes place anywhere in city as directed by Supreme Court,” letter ded.

Meanwhile, Aam Ami Party (AAP)-led Delhi government alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) was using issue of illegal immigrants for political gains ahe of assembly election in Delhi.
“A thorough investigation should be launched on how illegal immigrants are entering our country in first place… If re are illegal immigrants, how many are re? This is a massive failure, and lack of action on detentions highlights it furr,” a Delhi government spokesperson said.

He ded that on one hand, BJP is granting citizenship to illegal immigrants, and on or, it is staging a “farce investigation”.
