New Delhi: A violent confrontation on a waterlogged road in Delhi’s Sangam Vihar claimed the life of a 21-year-old Mohammad Manzoor. The incident unfolded when a tanker splashed water on pedestrians including Manzoor and his companions.
According to CCTV footage obtained from the scene, a tanker was passing by an auto-rickshaw that had broken down. Accidently, water sprayed from the tanker onto the bystanders, provoking aggressive reaction from three men identified as Arif Khan (18), Shakil (18), and Mohammad Manzoor.
The footage captured the moment when the three men attempted to stop the tanker and confront its driver, 35-year-old Sapan Singh. When their attempts to halt the vehicle failed, the situation escalated dramatically. Manzoor, visibly angered, was seen wielding a large stone, attempting to smash the truck's windscreen. Within moments, the windshield shattered.
To escape the escalating violence, the driver moved the vehicle forward, inadvertently knocking down Manzoor who was standing directly in front of the truck. The impact caused Manzoor to fall into the knee-deep water pooled on the road.
Emergency services rushed Manzoor to Batra hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival. The incident also resulted in injuries to bystander Bablu Ahmed, who was stabbed when he tried to intervene in the escalating confrontation. Ahmed was promptly referred to Safdarjung Hospital for medical treatment.
