Delhi Police announces slew of actions after day-long protests by cops

On Tuesday night, the Delhi police released a statement listing the decisions taken to assuage the police personnel who staged a massive protest outside the Police Headquarters. It stated that senior officials including the Delhi Police Commissioner and Central government officers were a part of the decision-making process. First, the police announced that it would file a review petition in the order passed by the Delhi High Court pertaining to the Tis Hazari court incident. Maintaining that the injured police personnel would get the best medical treatment, the Delhi police also declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs.25,000. Furthermore, the statement assured that legal action was being taken in the case relating to assault on the policeman outside the Saket court.

The statement read, "1. A review petition in the order dated 03.11.2019 of Hon’ble Delhi High Court regarding Tis Hazari court incident on 02.11.2019 will be filed before the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi.
2. All possible medical assistance will be provided to the injured police personnel

3. Minimum Rs.25,000 will be paid as ex-gratia payment to the injured police personnel
4. FIR has already been lodged regarding incident dated 04.11.2019 at Saket Courts and appropriate legal action is being taken."

Delhi High Court orders inquiry
The tussle between the lawyers and the police in Delhi has been going on since the clashes outside the Tis Hazari court on November 2 when a dispute broke out over a parking spot. On November 3, the Delhi High Court ordered a judicial inquiry by a retired High Court judge into the clashes between the police and lawyers outside the Tis Hazari court. The inquiry will be completed within 6 weeks. Meanwhile, Republic accessed a shocking video on Monday in which a lawyer can be seen assaulting a policeman outside the main gate of the Saket court in Delhi. The cop does not respond and simply drives away from the spot.
