Delhi police bust gambling racket, 22 bookies arrested under DPGA
Delhi Police busted a gambling racket on Friday and arrested 22 people involved in it in Old Gupta Colony in New Delhi and seized over Rs seven lakhs.

Delhi Police busted a gambling racket on Friday and arrested 22 people involved in it in New Delhi. According to the reports, the racket was busted in Old Gupta Colony. Further, an FIR has been registered against 22 bookies in the matter under the Delhi Public Gambling Act (DPGA). Further, the Delhi police have seized over seven lakh rupees in cash during the raid.
The Raid
According to the police, just after the police received information about the gambling, the Model Town Police Station formed a team and conducted a raid at the Old Gupta Colony at around 1.30 am. The police caught 22 bookies red-handed while gambling. According to reports, the organizer of the racket- Ashreet Singh, who is also the main accused in the case was previously involved in online betting during the second one day International Cricket Match between India and Australia. The police have seized three sets of playing cards and Rs 7,23,500 in cash.

Similar incident
The Delhi Police had arrested two people for their alleged involvement in betting on international cricket matches through online gambling on Wednesday. According to news reports, the duo downloaded gambling sites on their phones and then sent the information that the sites sent to other phones which were used for betting. The police have registered a case under the Delhi Public Gambling Act (DPGA).

About Delhi Public Gambling Act (DPGA)
The Delhi Public Gambling Act (DPGA) was introduced in 1955 and is applied to the whole Union Territory of Delhi. The Act includes penalty for owning or being in charge of a gaming house. Along with this, it includes a penalty for being found in a gaming house, penalty on proof of playing the games, and so on.
