Delhi Police honour sanitation workers; facilitate contribution in fight against COVID-19

Delhi police, on Saturday, facilitated a group of corona warriors for their efforts and sacrifice. Deputy Comissioner of Police (DCP), Sanjay Bhatia honoured the workers.

During the event, Bhatia said, "Everyone has honoured doctors, paramedics, police, media, NGOs, good Samaritans, big companies, but none has thought of felicitating the unsung heroes like the sanitation workers. Since the outbreak of Coronavirus, we have not witnessed any areas which have not been cleaned. These people are also part of people fighting against coronavirus. As felicitating all sanitation workers of Delhi is not possible, I on behalf of the Delhi Police have felicitated five people from each district. I want to extend my and the society's gratitude to these workers for doing their duty amid the Coronavirus outbreak."

Meanwhile, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi demanded that PM-CARES Fund be audited and that PM Modi must ensure the same. He pointed out that the fund had received huge contributions from PSUs & major public utilities like the Railways. Gandhi had stated the same in his press briefing suggesting steps to help the economy amid COVID-19 crisis.

Reports state that the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) will not be auditing the fund as it is a  'charitable organisation'. The fund will reportedly be audited by 'independent auditors who will be appointed by the trustees'. The Congress has time and again demanded that the fund be audited strictly as it has received enormous contributions.

Coronavirus cases in India continued to rise by over 3,000 as the total cases came close to 60,000 mark on Saturday with the recovery rate improving marginally to almost 30%. With 3,320 new Coronavirus cases, total count was 59,662 on Saturday. Active cases stood at 39,834 and the number of cured/discharged/migrated at 17,847. With 95 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total fatalities stood at 1,981.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said on Saturday that there is no need to anticipate worst-case situation with regard to COVID-19 pandemic in India like in some developed countries."Our fatality rate in the country continues to be around 3.3 per cent and the recovery rate has climbed up to 29.9 per cent, these are very good indicators. The doubling rate for the last 3 days has been about 11 days, for last 7 days it has been 9.9 days," he said.
