The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has prepared a draft chargesheet in connection with the sedition case lodged against former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, JNU student Umar Khalid, Arniban Bhattacharya and others.
According to the highly placed sources, Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Arniban Bhattacharya and seven Kashmir youths have been made as an accused in the case.
A police source close to the investigation said that the draft chargesheet has been sent to the prosecution department and legal. Opinion is being taken over this.
The source said that they have got the CFSL report of the video footages of JNU where in which students were seen shouting anti-India slogans. The footages were sent to the CBI's CFSL which have prepared the report and have sent it to the Special Cell.
The source claimed that the report of the videos is positive. "We have made a few student leaders, security guards of JNU our witnesses to prove our case. We had found around 30 people suspicious, but we didn't have enough evidence to proceed against them," the source said.
On 9 February 2016, a programme was organized at the JNU premises to show anger against the hanging of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat. During the programme students had allegedly chanted anti-India slogans. A case in this respect has lodged with the Vasant Kunj (North) Police Station, later the case was transferred to the Special Cell of the Delhi Police. Kanhaiya Kumar and other were arrested but were later released on bail by the Delhi High Court.
Kanhaiya Kumar will contest the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Begusarai constituency in Bihar. He will contest against the ruling JD(U)-BJP alliance on a Communist Party of India (CPI) ticket.
