Delhi Rains: IMD Predicts Showers, Thunderstorms; Waterlogging and Traffic Jams Expected

Delhi has been witnessing heavy rains since morning today, bringing down the temperature and the AQI; check the IMD update and traffic advisory.

Delhi: The national capital has woken up to light showers which has brought down the temperatures and has also reduced the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), showers and thunderstorms are predicted for today and this may also result in waterlogging and long traffic jams.

Weather Dept Predicts Showers, Thunderstorms in National Capital

As per the Regional Meteorological Centre, a cloudy sky, light showers and thunderstorms are expected in the national capital. As per the weather department, the maximum and minimum temperatures have gone down and the AQI stands at 63 in the ‘satisfactory category’ according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The weather department has also warned the Delhiites and those in the NCR region of heavy showers. The areas that are likely to experience rain in Delhi include - Gannaur ( Haryana ), Baraut, Bagpat (UP), Tughlakabad, Kalkaji, Greater Noida, Faridabad, Noida, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Kaithal, Saharanpur, Panipat (Haryana), Shamli (UP) and Gangoh.

Delhi Rains: Waterlogging and Traffic Likely, Check Traffic Updates

Since Delhi has been experiencing rains since the early hours of Thursday, waterlogging on most streets of the national capital is likely. The waterlogging will also cause traffic disruptions; the Delhi Traffic Police has issued updates regarding areas where traffic is slow or disrupted amid rains.

  • Traffic is affected on Rohtak Road in the carriageway from Nangloi towards Tikri Border and vice versa due to potholes and water logging. Kindly avoid Mundka and take alternate route accordingly.
