Delhi: Suspicious bag found at Indira Gandhi International Airport

Security was beefed up at Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi) after a suspicious bag was found inside the Airport premises. The police swung into action after they received information about an unclaimed bag from T3 arrival gate around 2 AM on Friday. The bag was first found by the CISF and then the local police were informed. According to sources, the police have kept the bag under observation. Bomb detection and disposal squad were also at the spot.

Suspicious bag found at T-3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport

The suspicious bag that was laying unattended was observed by Constable VK Singh of CISF. Immediately the EVD was called on and the bag was checked by the EVD which was found 'Positive' for RDX signal. The bag was also checked by sniffer dogs who gave a 'positive' signal of an explosive. Immediately, the BDDS team was called on and the area was 'Corden-off'. All movements and vehicles were stopped.

'X-ray images showed the bag to be doubtful'

X-ray images of the bag were taken by the BDDS  which were found doubtful. Later, the baggage was safely taken to an isolated area with the help of a Threat Containment Vehicle. Afterwards, a complete search and sweeping of the area was ordered and conducted by the CISF. Thereafter, the movement of passengers was restored around 3:30 am.

However, Senior officials are saying a positive signal for RDX traces does not always mean an explosive. Traces of RDX can be found in other chemicals as well. The machine that was used is called Explosive Vapour Detector. They also said, the machine is very sensitive and can pick traces from even microns. In the past, it has detected traces of narcotics in a box of containing pickles. Panicked passengers later took to Twitter to narrate the ordeal and stated that they were not allowed to exit the arrival terminal for some time.
