Delhi Wakes Up to Spell of Relief, IMD Predicts Week-Long Rainfall
IMD issued an orange alert for the national capital, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region.

New Delhi: In respite of relief from scorching heat, Delhi woke up to heavy rainfall lashing parts of the national capital on Thursday morning. Visuals from Sarita Vihar and Munirka showed early commuters braving through the rain.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the national capital will get a spell of relief on Thursday after days of blistering hot and humid weather conditions that caused several deaths in the region.
The Met department predicted light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour would occur over and adjoining areas of Seelampur, Vivek Vihar, Preet Vihar, Akshardham in Delhi, Gannaur and Sonipat in Haryana, and Kandhla, Baraut, Bagpat, Meerut, Modinagar, Kithor, Garhmukteshwar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, and Siyana in Uttar Pradesh.
The weather bureau said that several other areas of the national capital including Alipur, Burari, Seelampur, Shahadra, Lodi Road, Lajpat Nagar, and Tughlakabad could also receive light to moderate intensity rainfall along with NCR areas of Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad.
Orange Alert in Delhi
The weather bureau issued an orange alert for the national capital, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region on June 28 and 29.
The Met Department predicted similar weather conditions in the Haryana-Chandigarh region during the period. “Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi is likely to get isolated heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on 28th & 29th June, 2024.”
Delhi on Wednesday received light rainfall, providing a bit of relief from the blistering hot and humid conditions in the region. The weather bureau predicted light rains accompanied by thunderstorms in the national capital on Wednesday.
Today's weather in the national capital will be cloudy with light rain or thunderstorms and wind speeds between 25 and 35 kilometres per hour. Over the next few days, similar conditions are expected to prevail
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced to Madhya Pradesh, the North Arabian Sea, additional regions of Gujarat State, South-east Rajasthan, and southern West Uttar Pradesh, according to the weather bureau.
It added that heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely along the West Peninsular Coast during the next 3-4 days and over Northeast India likely during 27th-30th June.
The Met Department predicted that rainfall activity will increase over Northwest India with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely during 28th-30th June.
