New Delhi: In a tragic incident, a medical student allegedly committed suicide at a Delhi Hospital on Tuesday.

The student, aged 30 was undergoing treatment for a psychiatric disorder.

Medical Student Commits Suicide at Delhi Hospital

A 30-year-old medical student allegedly committed suicide at the Maulana Azad Medical College in Central Delhi, officials said on Tuesday.

The body of Amit Kumar was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room on Tuesday evening, they said.

No Suicide Note Found, Probe Underway

Kumar was a first-year student of MD (Doctor of Medicine). He was under treatment for psychiatric disorder, a police officer said, adding that no suicide note has been found.

The family members of the deceased have been informed and further probe is underway, the officials said. 

Nursing Student Drugged and Raped in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri

In another news, a 19-year-old nursing student was raped in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri. The victim had taken an auto to go home, but the auto driver mixed something in the water on the pretext of giving water to the victim.

The incident happened while she boarded an auto rickshaw to reach home. She was off-roading, rammed her into the water with sedatives, by the auto driver.

She then took her to a secluded place, raped her, and fled the scene.

Protests broke out in the area last night after the parents of the woman filed a complaint with the police.

The survivor has been admitted to a hospital, while the police are looking out for the accused based on the CCTV footage of the auto.

These incidents are being reported days after the gruesome rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The heinous crime has sparked massive protests across the country seeking ‘Justice for Abhaya’; the case is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Supreme Court of India has also taken suo moto cognisance in the matter.
