Delhi court issues notice to police on bail plea of 6 accused in Daryanganj violence

Delhi's Tis Hazari court on Tuesday issued a notice to the police over the bail plea of 6 accused who were arrested by the cops for violent anti-CAA protests

Delhi's Tis Hazari court on Tuesday heard bail petition filed by six accused in violent Daryaganj protest. Post-hearing  petition, court issued a tice to Delhi Police. Special ditional Session Judge Satish Kumar sought response from police and issued December 28 as next date for hearing. 

Six out f 15 accused h moved ir bail plea to court on December 24. Earlier on December 23, Tis Hazari Metropolitan Magistrate Kapil Kumar h sent fifteen accused to judicial custody for 14-days. accused were initially denied bail by court asserting that allegations against m are serious and an initial st investigation is underway.

Post clash between police and anti-CAA protesters, Delhi police h arrested 15 people and h detained 40 protesters from Daryaganj area.

During hearing on bail plea on Monday, senior counsel Rebecca John, who appeared for accused, informed court that her clients were being falsely implicated in case. Delhi Police's Investigation Officer, however, argued against bail plea in court and stated that if bail is granted to accused, re is a possibility that y may influence witnesses and it could affect law and order.

According to police, protestors h set ablaze a private car which was parked at Subhash Marg, Daryaganj, right outside office of DCP. fire was immediately doused with water and fire extinguishers. Protesters also hurled stones at security personnel. Delhi Police resorted to lathi-charge and used water cann to disperse protesters as violence erupted in area during a march against Citizenship (Amendment) Act on Friday.

Delhi police PRO MS Randhawa said, "Many of our personnel were injured, some people were detained. We used mild force and water cann, didn't lathi-charge protesters or lob tear-gas shells. Outsiders were involved in violence near Delhi Gate during a protest against Citizenship Amendment Act; some people have been detained."
