Union Minister Kailash Choudhary on Saturday urged scientists to come up with invative techlogies to help farmers and emphasized on developing organic farming in rth-east region. He also said agriculture sector will have to play a "very important role" to achieve USD 5-trillion ecomy target by 2024-25.

Choudhary dressed ICAR-24th Regional Committee Meeting 

dressing two-day ICAR-24th Regional Committee Meeting for Zone-III here, Choudhary, who is union minister of state for agriculture and farmers' welfare, said, "Scientists should come up with invative techlogies which benefit farmers." He emphasized on developing organic farming in rth-east region, eliminating harmful fertilizers and pesticide uss which have alarmingly increased health hazards among people of country. He also urged researchers to focus on developing techlogies to empower farmers for organic farming.

ICAR has set up eight regional committees

Assam's agriculture and food processing minister Atul Bora said state government has focused on a maximum utilization of resources available. Dr. T Mohapatra, secretary of department of agricultural research and education, urged participants in meeting to stress strength of agricultural sector and to use resources of region for maximum benefits. regional committee comprises seven rastern states and Sikkim to provide a forum to researchers and state governments' functionaries to examine major gaps in current research and training efforts in farming sector. Apart from production, post-harvest manment, processing, and marketing should be an integral part of research activities, said Mohapatra who is also director-general of Indian Council of Agricultural Research.ICAR has set up eight regional committees on basis of agro-climatic regions.
