'Disgusting': Gautam Gambhir reveals Delhi hotel, which caught fire, used to flout rules

A total of 17 people have been killed, 11 have suffered injuries and 35 have been rescued so far from the fire at the Hotel Arpit Palace in Karol Bagh

Former Indian cricketing superstar Gautam Gambhir, who hails from Delhi, has slammed Hotel Arpit Palace in Karol Bagh, which caught fire on Tuesday morning resulting in the death of 17 people so far.

Gambhir exclaimed on his official Twitter handle that the hotel is right next to Gautam Gambhir Foundation, and he had the know-how of the rules being regularly flouted by the hotel.

"It’s so sad to see the callousness of regulators with regards to building laws being traded with loss of human lives. This hotel is right next to the GGF office and I know first hand how parking rules, building laws are conveniently flouted for commercial interests. Disgusting," wrote Gambhir on social media.

A total of 17 people have been killed, 11 have suffered injuries and 35 have been rescued so far from the fire at the Hotel Arpit Palace in Karol Bagh. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but it is suggested that a number of people died because there was no space to escape from the corridors.

"Cause of fire is yet to be investigated. 30 fire tenders had rushed to the spot. Rescue operation is over. There was a wooden paneling on corridor because of which people couldn't use corridors to evacuate; two had jumped off the building," said Vipin Kental, Fire Officer.

In the aftermath of this tragic incident, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal rushed to the spot and announced Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the families of those who were dead.
