Diwali, the festival of lights
Diwali is the festival of lights and one of the most celebrated festivals of Hinduism. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. The festival celebrates the homecoming of Lord Ram and Lakshmi's avatar Sita, Sheshanaga's avatar Lakhshmana and Shiva's avatar Hanuman after a 14 year period in exile. Diwali also celebrates Ram's army of good defeating the demon king Ravana's army of evil in the Treta Yuga. The festival is also a post-harvest festival celebrating the bounty following the arrival of the monsoon in the subcontinent.
