Doctors vs KRV: Talks fail, pvt hospital OPDs to be closed from Thursd

As talks, heed by Deputy Chief Minister and Medical Education Minister Ashwath Narayan, to break delock failed, striking junior doctors escalated protests by holding a rally in Minto hospital in Bengaluru. If ir demands are t met, doctors working in private hospitals too are expected to close Outpatient Department (OPD) from Thursday to express ir solidarity.
KRV activists allegedly manhandled two postgruate medicos
On Friday, a group of pro-Kanna activists from Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) allegedly manhandled two postgruate medicos in Minto Ophthalmic Hospital in Bengaluru. This happened when y came to ask about eye surgeries and were allegedly mishandled by doctors at Minto. Of 24 eye surgeries performed on July 9th, allegedly 22 patients were critically impacted; two lost eyesight completely while eight or patients partially. When mob was arguing with junior doctors, medicos reportedly could t speak Kanna which enrd activists, leing to assault.

Dy CM has anunced compensation of Rs 3 lakhs per patient
On Saturday, junior doctors associated with Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) launched an indefinite protest, closing OPD demanding that attackers should be booked by police. Dy CM Ashwath Narayan has anunced a compensation of Rs 3 lakhs per patient and also assured that action will be taken against doctors responsible for mishap. He has also been holding a series of meetings with striking doctors and representatives of Indian Medical Association to end protests.

Doctors have been demanding stringent measures for ir security
Due to OPD being shut in several state-run hospitals like Minto, Bowring, Victoria etc, many patients have h to wait long hours and some ors have h to return without medical assistance too. With private doctors too threatening to close OPDs, situation is feared to turn dire. But doctors claim y have been victims to intimidating tactics several times in past and medicos who were allegedly assaulted were t even responsible for surgeries. Saying that attacking doctors for t speaking Kanna t only puts outsiders at peril but also tarnishes im of state, doctors have been demanding stringent measures for ir security.

Meanwhile, KRV too held a protest on Tuesday evening at Townhall, Bengaluru against doctors saying ir strike is causing more inconvenience to common man and is against ir ethics. Accusing doctors of neglect and irresponsibility, KRV has been demanding action against doctors and staff at Minto who were responsible for July 9th botch up.
