'Don't share fake videos': BMC clarifies that viral video of bike stuck in flooded manhole is not from Mumbai

Heavy rainfall lashed the financial capital for a second week in a row on Monday, causing significant disruption to daily life as the low-lying areas flooded.

Amid the deluge, a video purportedly from the city's suburb of Chembur was circulated on social media platforms showing roads in a dire condition. In the video, a man can be seen struggling to pull out a two-wheeler from a manhole. Soon, others joined in and provided a helping hand. Eventually, and with lots of effort, the vehicle was pulled out. Here's the video:

Apparently, the video turned out to be false. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also took to Twitter and clarified that the video which had been making the rounds was not from 'Aamchi Mumbai'. BMC's response came after it garnered enough backlash after the video surfaced. Here's their tweet in which the BMC also urged people to refrain from circulating fake news in the midst of the heavy downpour that Mumbai is receiving. The post had created quite the buzz on social media, with many slamming the BMC for their unpreparedness. Meanwhile, operations at the Mumbai airport were suspended briefly on Monday morning due to heavy rains which also forced the aerodrome operator to divert some flights to the nearby airports, an official said.

"Runway operations at the Mumbai airport remained suspended for nearly 20 minutes on Monday morning due to heavy rains," the official from the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) said.

The services were stopped at 9.12 am and later resumed at 9.31 am. Three city-bound flights were diverted from Mumbai during the period, the official said, adding that there were no cancellations. The heavy downpour in the city is because of the cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat and Maharashtra. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Maharashtra this week.
