Doors of Gangotri, Yamunotri Temple to Close Soon for Winter

The doors of Gangotri temple will be closed for winter on November 2, and the doors of Yamunotri temple will be closed for winter on November 3.

Uttarkashi: The current session of the Gangotri and Yamunotri pilgrimage is now about to end. As per tradition, the doors of Gangotri temple will be closed for winter on Saturday, November 2, and the doors of Yamunotri temple will be closed for winter on Sunday, November 3, an official release said. 

Along with the celebration of Deepotsav in both these Dhams, the sequence of special prayers and worships before closing the doors continues. As per religious tradition, the doors of Gangotri temple will be closed on Saturday at 12:14 pm on the occasion of Annakoot festival.

After the doors are closed, the festival idol of Ganga ji will be brought to Mukhwa village from Gangotri Dham in a doli (palanquin). Where the festival idol of Ganga ji will remain seated in the Ganga temple during winter.

Devotees will be able to have darshan and worship in the Ganga temple of Mukhwa during winter. The doors of Yamunotri temple will also be closed on Sunday, November 3 at 12:05 pm on the festival of Bhaiyadooj. During winter, the festival idol of Yamuna ji will be seated in Yamuna temple located in Kharsali village.

Where during winter, devotees will be able to visit and worship Yamuna ji. All preparations for closing of doors have been completed by Gangotri Temple Committee and Yamunotri Temple Committee. Along with special decorations in Gangotri and Yamunotri temples, temples located in Mukhwa and Kharsali have also been decorated. All necessary arrangements for closing of doors have also been ensured by the administration and police department. During this Yatra period, till this evening, 1521752 pilgrims have arrived in these two Dhams located in the district, out of which 710210 pilgrims visiting Yamunotri Dham and 811542 pilgrims visiting Gangotri Dham are included.
