Thrissur: A Sri Lankan national accused in a drug case, fled from the custody of the police on Wednesday while he was being taken to Ayyanthole Court from Viyyur Central Jail.

The accused Ajith Kishanth Perera, who managed to escape from the custody, was wearing a white t-shirt with 'Indian Parliament' written on it.

Thrissur City Police immediately launched a widespread hunt for Perera, who was previously arrested in Ernakulam in connection with a drug-related case and was transferred to Viyyur Central Jail.

Perera has been accused of using a mobile phone while being lodged in Viyyur Central Jail. More details awaited.
