Drunk Man In Pune Attempts to Burn Cops, Arrested
An intoxicated man in Pune attempted to set a policewoman and constable on fire with a lighter on Friday evening.

Pune: In a shocking event in Pune, a drunk man tried to set two police officers on fire. The man identified as Sanjay Fakira Salve (32), a resident of Pimpri-Chinchwad and a native of Jalna, poured petrol on the officers on Friday evening. The incident reportedly happened near the Vishrambaug police station, following which the man has been arrested.
Assistant Police Inspector Shailaja Jankar, one of the victims, said the unfortunate incident took place around 6 in the evening on Friday.
Accused Has Been Booked in Attempt to Murder Case
Unfolding the events she said, “A man was seen driving harshly at Budhwar Chowk. The traffic police stopped him and noted a strong smell of alcohol. He was brought to Faraskhana office for a test to check alcohol consumption. He was being uncooperative and asked to wait on side until he calmed down. In the meantime, he excused himself to get water and returned immediately with petrol and a lighter.”
Salve poured petrol on constable Sameer Sawant, who asked him to take a breath analyzer test. When Jankar intervened, she was also targeted by him. Fortunately, the accused was captivated and detained by the other police personnel.
According to Police Officials Salve has been booked under Sections 109 (Attempt to murder), 132 (Assaulting a public servant while discharging duty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 184 (Driving dangerously), 185 (Drunk driving) of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Further investigation on this matter is ongoing.
