Durga Puja come to an end, as Kolkata bids adieu to celebrations
The festivities of Durga Puja came to an end on Tuesday with people in Bengal queuing up near river banks and lakes for the immersion of Goddess Durga's idols.

The festivities of Durga Puja came to an end on Tuesday, October 8, with people in Kolkata queuing up near river banks and lakes for the immersion of Goddess Durga's idols. Devotees chanted 'Asche Bochor Abar Hobe' (till next year) while bidding its adieu to Goddess Durga and the festival. According to reports, over 1,000 idols were to be immersed at various ghats of the Ganges. To help lift and extricate the remains of idols, heavy cranes were seen during the immersion process.
Tight security during the festival
According to reports, the Kolkata Police had made security arrangements for safe and peaceful celebrations on the occasion of Vijayadashami. CCTV cameras were installed everywhere to keep a tab on the safety. Further reports stated that besides the police, authorities from the state civil defence, civic bodies and Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) were also deployed to monitor the situation strongly.
Mamata Banerjee wishes people
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday wished people on the occasion of 'Vijaya Dashami' and Dusherra. Taking it to Twitter, she greeted everyone in India and across the world. The Bengali part of the tweet translates to, "Today is Vijaya Dashmi. Best wishes to the mothers of Bengal, the soil, the people and all those living in different parts of the country and abroad."

The festival of Durga Puja is celebrated to mark the victory of Goddess Durga over evil. During the festival, women offer sweets and prayers to the goddess, while the festival, the city of Kolkata is filled with colourful processions.
