Vijayadashmi is celebrated with processions and Goddess Durga’s idol is dipped in many water bodies. Devotees bid farewell to the Goddess on this day. The day is also famous for shows such as ‘Dhaak’ and ‘Dhanuchi’. These shows are prominently held after the Maha Aarti of Durga Maa. Woman dress up in traditional sarees and perform the famous Sindoor Khela by smearing sindoor or vermillion powder on each other. As a result, Durga Puja in Kolkata is celebrated with tremendous joy and worship.

The pandals that are put up during Durga Puja in Kolkata are a visual delight. One can find more than 3000 pandals in Kolkata. The preparations for these pandals begin three to four months prior to the festival. Some of the most famous pandals in Kolkata are in Kumurtuli Park, Suruchi Sangha, Jodhpur Park, College Square and Bagbazaar.
