'Economic Policy: The Road Ahead': PM Modi meets economists and experts, carries out constructive discussions ahead of Union Budget

 Ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget on July 5, the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on June 22 attended an interactive session with over 40 economists and other experts, organized by NITI Aayog, on the theme Economic Policy 'The Road Ahead'.

 Ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget on July 5, the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on June 22 attended an interactive session with over 40 economists and other experts, organized by NITI Aayog, on the theme Economic Policy 'The Road Ahead'.

During the session, participants shared their views, in five distinct groups, on the economic themes of macro-economy and employment, agriculture and water resources, exports, education, and health.

In his interaction, the Prime Minister thanked various participants for their suggestions and observations, on various aspects of the economy. 

Tweeting about the same, Prime Minister Modi said that he had fruitful interaction with the economists and other experts.

The meeting was also attended by Union Ministers Shri Piyush Goyal and Shri Rao Inderjeet Singh. The Vice-Chairman NITI Aayog Shri Rajiv Kumar and senior officers from the Union Government and NITI Aayog were also present. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her first Union Budget on July 5.

Well known economists and experts like Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Bibek Debroi, Nilesh Shah, K Srinath Reddy, Natrajan Chandra Shekharan, Dr Devi Shetty, HSBC, Credit Suisse, representatives, Anil Agrawal, Sanjiv Puri , Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Surjit Bhalla, Bodhisattva Ganguly were present.

Earlier on Friday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a pre-budget meeting with finance ministers of all the states. During the meeting, Sitharaman said that the Centre has the responsibility of setting the direction of economic growth. Furthermore, the Finance Minister, on Wednesday, held the 20th meeting of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) to review the current global and domestic economic situation and financial stability issues including, inter-alia, those concerning Banking and NBFCs.

The interim Union Budget for 2019-20 was announced by Mr. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Finance, Corporate Affairs, Railways and Coal, Government of India, in Parliament on February 01, 2019. It focuses on supporting the needy farmers, economically less privileged, workers in the unorganized sector and salaried employees, while continuing the Government of India’s push towards better physical and social infrastructure.
