EDMC declares war on pollution; sprinkles water on road to combat dust

To curb the menace of dust pollution, the Delhi corporation began sprinkling water on the road. AQI of the region was docking at 242 on Saturday

With an aim to curb rising level of pollution in national capital, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Saturday began sprinkling water on ros. Water-sprinkling machines were spotted in and around Laxmi Nagar area, which also happens to be a popular shopping area of Delhi. 

Air quality on Saturday morning dropped to 242, which falls in 'poor' category. In a move to reduce ever-increasing pollution levels in region, Delhi government heed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has decided to re-implement 'Odd-Even' scheme to be put into effect from vember 4 to vember 15.

It also stated that smoke resulting from burning crop residues has poisoned Delhi's air with alarmingly high levels of pollution.

SAFAR'S VISORY 

To combat pollution levels, SAFAR h released an visory for vulnerable groups. People have been vised to take more breaks and indulge less in intense activities. Moreover, organisation has asked asthma patients to keep ir medicines rey in case of breathlessness. In its visory, SAFAR ted, "Heart patients, see doctor if you get palpitations, shortness of breath, or unusual fatigue.” Stringent measures to combat air pollution would be introduced from October 15 in Delhi and joining areas such as Gurugram, ida, Ghaziab, and Faridab. This is part of Gred Response Action Plan (GRAP), which was initially implemented in Delhi-NCR region in 2017.

Odd-Even Scheme

On October 17, Kejriwal anunced details of Odd-Even scheme applicable in Delhi from vember 4 to vember 15. Under scheme, odd-numbered vehicles will be allowed on odd dates and even-numbered vehicles will be allowed on even dates, except for a few exemptions. Any violation of traffic rule would incur a fine of Rs 4,000.

According to  detailed report on Odd-Even scheme,  rule will be applicable to vehicles coming from or states. It also stated that scheme will only be implemented on n-transport four-wheeled vehicles, while two-wheelers will be exempted.
