Facing shortage of tokens for entry to Taj Mahal, ASI orders 15,000 more

The new system was set up to make entry to the Taj hassle-free for tourists. However, the shortage of tokens has been affecting the tourist entry.

Facing a short of tokens for entry to Taj Mahal, which was affecting tourist footfall in Mughal-era mausoleum, Archaeological Survey of India has ordered 15,000 more of se magnetic coins.

Explaining possible reason for short of tokens, Superintending Archaeologist, ASI (Agra Circle), Vasant Kumar Swarnkar told PTI on Wednesday that tourist guides buy extra coins in anticipation of getting more customers but eir forget to return unused coins or lose m.

ASI has ordered for 15,000 magnetic coins to meet short," Swarnkar said, ding that w re will be 35,000 coins available with ASI to facilitate tourist entry into monument.

In June 2019, turnstile gates were installed at monument's west and east gates. At time, ASI h ordered 40,000 coins, however, between June and December around 20,000 coins could t be retrieved.

official said that ditional manpower has been deployed at gates of Taj Mahal to remind tourists of returning coins before exiting.
