Pune Latest News: Pune residents, get ready to bear the brunt of increased cab fares as both Ola and Uber have announced a significant surge in fares. The Pune Regional Transport Authority (RTO) has officially endorsed a nearly 20 per cent hike in taxi fares, affecting commuters in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Baramati. The price revision came into effect on January 1, 2024, making travel through app-based cab aggregators Ola and Uber more expensive.

This decision follows persistent demands from taxi associations for an augmentation in air-conditioned cab fares within the Pune region. In response to multiple protests by taxi unions, the regional transport office proposed a revised fare structure, setting the initial charge at Rs 37 for the first one and a half kilometres and Rs 25 for each subsequent kilometre. The proposal received the green light during a recent Regional Transport Authority meeting presided over by District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh.

Consequently, these revised rates have now been implemented, leading to an increase in the cost of rides offered by Ola, Uber, and other air-conditioned taxi services in the area.

Last year, the fares for 'Kaali-Peeli' taxis were revised. At that time, the fare stood at Rs. 31 for the initial one and a half kilometres and Rs. 21 for each subsequent kilometre. The Khatua Committee, advocating for a 20 per cent increase in air-conditioned cab fares relative to black and yellow taxis, recommended this adjustment. Consequently, the new fare structure required passengers to shell out Rs. 37 for the first one and a half kilometres and Rs. 25 for every subsequent kilometre.
