'Delhi Chalo' March: What Are the Key Demands of Protesting Farmers?

New Delhi: Farmer unions began their  'Delhi Chalo' march on Tuesday, demanding a law guaranteeing MSP for their produce, one of the conditions they had set when they agreed to withdraw their agitation in 2021. In the wake of the protest march, security has been heightened at Delhi borders. The second round of meeting between farmer leaders and Union ministers late on Monday night remained inconclusive, prompting farmers to press ahead with their 'Delhi Chalo' protest today. 

The General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Sarwan Singh Pandher, said that the Centre has not been able to take any strong decision on anything. The demands of farmers also include "justice" for victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations, pensions for farmers and farm labourers, farm debt waiver and withdrawal of police cases.
