Farmers protest bare-chested in Amritsar against agri bills

A group of farmers, who squatted on a railway track in Punjab's Amritsar, went shirtless on Saturday in protest against the three agri-marketing bills passed recently by the Parliament

A group of farmers, who squatted on a railway track in Punjab's Amritsar, went shirtless on Saturday in protest against three agri-marketing bills passed recently by Parliament.

Sitting on rail track, bare-chested protesters shouted slogans against BJP-led central government and demanded that farm bills be withdrawn.

Farmers under banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee have been protesting on rail track near Devidaspura vill in Amritsar since September 24.

"Farmers have taken off ir 'kurtas' and shirts to make government hear our voice," Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher told PTI over phone.

committee h anunced on Friday to extend its three-day 'rail roko' agitation from September 26 till September 29.

'rail roko' agitation h started on Thursday, forcing railway authorities to suspend operation of special passenger trains in state.

Farmers have expressed apprehension that Centre's farm reforms would pave way for dismantling of minimum support price system and y would be at "mercy" of big corporates. farmers said y would continue ir fight till three farm bills were revoked.

Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill were passed by Parliament earlier this week and w await presidential assent.
