Farooq Abdullah's detention extended by J&K admin by 3 months under PSA: Officials

Three-time CM, NC patron and Srinagar MP Farooq Abdullah's detention under PSA has been extended by another three months by the Jammu & Kashmir administration.

Farooq Abdullah's detention has been extended by ar three months by Jammu and Kashmir ministration. National Conference (NC) patron has been detained in his residence since August 05 under draconian Public Safety Act (PSA), after BJP-led government revoked special status from state by scrapping Article 370. 

three-term Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Srinagar MP will be confined in his Srinagar residence, which is w declared as a sub-jail. Under Public Safety Act, an individual can be detained for up to two years, without a trial. Incidentally, act was introduced by Farooq Abdullah's far, Sheikh Abdullah in 1978.

His house, located at Gupkar Ro, has been declared a sub-jail by union territory's Home Department.  82-year-old Abdullah, who became first chief minister against whom stringent public safety law was invoked, has a heart pacemaker implanted and h undergone a kidney transplant a few years ago.  PSA has two sections -- 'public order' and 'threat to security of state'. former allows detention without trial for three to one year and latter for two years.

Despite being detained under Public Safety Act, oddly, 81-year-old mainstream politician was recently included in a 21-member consultative committee on defense by government. Abdullah, in a letter, h condemned government for disallowing him to attend winter session of Parliament, wherein significant Bills were passed.  "It is most unfortunate that y are t able to deliver me my post in time. I am sure this is t way to treat a senior Member of Parliament and leer of a political party. We are t criminals," National Conference chief said. 

Opposition has been raising prolonged detention of mainstream Kashmiri politicians in Parliament. Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament claimed that it is local ministration that will decide release of detained politicians. In response to Congress leer hir Ranjan's query, Amit Shah in Lok Sabha said, "re is need to keep anyone (leers) in jail even for a day more than that is required. As and when local ministration feels time is appropriate, y will be released," Amit Shah said. "re will be interference from our side." Amit Shah, taking a dig at Congress, accused party of confining Farooq Abdullah's far Sheikh Abdullah in jail for 11 years.

Kashmir leers detained

Prominent mainstream leers, including PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, NC vice president Omar Abdullah, JKPC president Saj Lone, and ors have been detained in Jammu and Kashmir since abrogation of Article 370 on August 5. Farooq Abdullah was reportedly moved out of Srinagar. Earlier, Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was shifted to a government accommodation in city from a tourist hut located at foothills of Zaberwan range, officials said.

move is necessitated because of approaching winters. Initially, she was kept with Omar Abdullah at Hari Nivas but was later shifted to Chesma Shahi and lodged in a tourist hut. Both, Omar Abdullah and Mufti have been detained under section 107 of Criminal Procedure Code.
