Gadkari inaugurates, lays foundation stones of Rs 15,592-cr projects in Andhra Pradesh

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of highways projects worth Rs 15,592 in Andhra Pradesh, an official statement said. These include 16 highway projects stretching over 1,411 km.

"Union Minister for Ro Transport, Highways and MSMEs Nitin Gkari inaugurated and laid foundation stones of 16 national highway projects with a total length of 1,411 km worth Rs 15,592 crore in Andhra Presh," ro transport and highways ministry said in a statement.

dressing an event through video-conferencing on ocassion, Gkari said length of national highways in Andhra Presh before May 2014 was 4,193 km, which has w increased to 6,860 km, registering an increase of 2,667 km, or 64 per cent, in length in six years.He said works costing Rs 34,100 crore are under detailed project report (DPR) st and may be completed by 2024, while works costing Rs 25,440 crore are under implementation.

minister said 50-60 per cent progress has been achieved in projects costing Rs 18,100 crore.Gkari said 5,000 km of national highways are being developed as a part of Bharatmala Pariyojana in state. In dition, 400 km of port connectivity ros will also be developed under programme.

"In line with Prime Minister's (Narendra Modi) vision for a New India, development of world-class transport infrastructure has been prioritised, through initiatives such as Bharatmala Pariyojana, India's largest-ever infrastructure development programme," statement said quoting minister.

Many flagship corridors such as Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway, and Anantapur-Amaravati Expressway are being developed as part of Bharatmala Pariyojana, he ded. Gkari also said 335-km Anantpur-Amaravati Expressway is also being developed as part of programme. controlled-access expressway, he said, will improve connectivity of capital region, coastal and rrn region of Andhra Presh and will enable ecomic prosperity of region. expressway has 16 packs and is being developed with an investment of Rs 20,000 crore.

It connects Amaravati, new capital city of Andhra Presh, with Anantapuramu of Rayalaseema Region, and provides a major connectivity between NH-44 and NH-16 which are lifeline in Andhra Presh.

minister said Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway with a length of 262 km is also one of expressways being developed as part of Bharatmala Pariyojana.This expressway, improving connectivity between Bengaluru and Chennai, will greatly enable ecomic prosperity of region, he said. It includes construction of Western Side Benz Circle Flyover in city limits of Vijayawa. minister said projects with a total length of 637 km costing Rs 8,306 crore are likely to be completed during 2020-21.
