Roorkee: A gas cylinder was discovered on the tracks of the Roorkee-Luxor railway route near Dhandhera railway station early Saturday morning, prompting an immediate response from railway authorities and local police. The incident was reported around 6:45 am by the guard of a BCN goods train.
According to PTI, Sanjay Sharma, in-charge of Laksar GRP, confirmed that at the time of the discovery, no trains were scheduled to pass on that route. "At 06:35, the loco pilot of a goods train (BCNHL/32849) informed the Station Master at Roorkee (RK) that a cylinder was found on the track between Landaura (LDR) and Dhandhera (DNRA) at km 1553/01. The spot is about one KM from DNRA station," stated Sharma. Upon inspection, the pointsman found the cylinder to be completely empty, and it was subsequently placed under the custody of the Station Master at Dhandhera.

SimiLPG Cylinder Found On Rail Tracks
This incident follows a similar event on September 22 near Prempur station in Uttar Pradesh, where the loco-pilot of a goods train applied emergency brakes upon spotting a gas cylinder on the tracks. "A goods train going from Kanpur towards Prayagraj was stopped using the emergency brakes after the driver spotted a gas cylinder lying on the tracks, at Prempur Station at 5:50 am today (September 22). Railway IOW (Inspector of work), security, and other teams examined the cylinder and removed it from the tracks. Upon inspection, it was found that the 5-litre cylinder was empty. Directions have been given to investigate the matter," stated the CPRO of North Central Railway.
Earlier this month, another major accident was narrowly avoided when the Prayagraj-Bhiwani Kalindi Express collided with an LPG cylinder placed on the railway tracks.
Railway authorities are urging vigilance among staff and the public to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
