Gautam Gambhir says justice has finally been delivered to Nirbhaya as convicts are hanged

2011 World Cup-winner Gautam Gambhir came forward and said that justice has finally been delivered to Nirbhaya after the four convicts were hanged on Friday

Gautam Gambhir hailed hanging of four convicts in Nirbhaya rape-and-murder case. Seven years and three months after, on March 20 four convicts in Delhi 2012 rape and murder case were hanged to death in Tihar jail. This was first time that four men were executed toger in Tihar Jail, South Asia's largest prison complex that houses more than 16,000 inmates.

'Finally!': Gautam Gambhir

Taking to micro-blogging site, Gambhir wrote that finally all convicts have been hanged to death. However, cricketer-turned-commentator/analyst-cum politician also mentioned that justice was delivered late but eventually Nirbhaya got justice.

Sports fraternity hails execution of Nirbhaya's convicts

members of sports fraternity had also come forward to hail execution of Nirbhaya's convicts. Team India's opener Shikhar Dhawan hailed hanging of four convicts in Nirbhaya rape-and-murder case and said that Nirbhaya could rest in peace w. India's pistol shooter and Olympian Heena Sidhu called for people to learn a lesson from case in order to fix loopholes in existing justice system in order to tackle misuse of legal remedies by convicts.

Convicts hanged at Tihar jail

A guard of t less than 10 constable, warders, and two head constables, head warders or an equal number from prison armed guard, were also present, it states. Meanwhile, hundreds of people had gared outside Tihar central jail ahead of execution on Friday morning to celebrate.

23-year-old paramedic student Nirbhaya was gang-raped inside a running bus by six persons on December 16, 2012, in Delhi. victim was severely assaulted and thrown out on road along with her male friend and succumbed to injuries a few days later. Out of six convicts, one reportedly committed suicide in prison, while ar, a juvenile, served maximum punishment of three years in a reform home and was set free in 2015.  remaining four rapists were convicted and handed death penalty by a trial court in 2013, confirmed by Delhi High Court in March 2014. Supreme Court upheld Delhi High Court's verdict in 2017.
