Gen Bipin Rawat: Army to construct airfields in regions of Uttarakhand

Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Sunday said that the Indian Army is constructing airfields in some regions of Uttarakhand that border China in order to improve the force's connectivity which is a priority of the Indian Army. General Rawat also said that the Army was ready to help Uttarakhand in all possible ways for the state to improve its connectivity.

Addressing an event at Tehri in Uttarakhand, General Bipin Rawat said, "Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Trivender Singh Rawat had earlier in our meeting told me that advanced landing grounds or airfields should be constructed in areas of Uttarakhand bordering China and we are working speedily to finish the construction soon." "Be it road or air connectivity, I assure you that the Indian Army will provide help to improve connectivity in all possible ways," General Rawat added. While addressing the issue of provocation by Pakistan along the LOC, Gen Rawat said that the Army is taking every measure and also responding effectively to Pakistan's provocation.

'Army ready for any action on PoK': Gen. Rawat
Previously in September, Rawat had backed the Centre's claim on Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) saying the Army will act according to the government's orders. When asked about Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of State (PMO) Jitendra Singh's statements about India taking back Aksai Chin and PoK, Rawat expressed his happiness at the statement. He added that the Centre's claim was the truth. He also said that the government control decision on such issues.

PoK is ours: COAS Bipin Rawat
The Chief of Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat, while addressing a ceremony on the launch of the honorary postal stamp for Siachen Warriors reiterated, “Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) is ours”. Talking about Article 370 as a temporary provision in the Constitution of India, the Army Chief explained that Gilgit Baltistan and PoK have always been a part of India. Sending a clear message to the “western neighbour” Pakistan, Rawat also said that PoK is being illegally controlled by them. General Bipin Rawat also asserted that PoK is under the control of terrorists.
