70-year-old plants GPS tracker in wife's car after filing divorce, here's what happened next

Ahmedabad: 70-year-old Shabbir Sulaiman Gandhi was arrested on Friday in connection with charges of stalking and breaching privacy of his wife. The arrest followed an incident where the septuagenarian allegedly planted a GPS tracker in his estranged wife's car amidst ongoing divorce proceedings. The incident dates back to the initial week of December 2023 when Gandhi reportedly installed the tracking device in his 62-year-old wife's vehicle. Cybercrime Police Inspector Krunal Bhukan disclosed that a car servicing company discovered the tracker and promptly informed Gandhi's wife. Subsequently, she lodged a formal complaint with the authorities on January 2.

The vehicle, registered under the name of the couple's unemployed younger son in his early 20s, became a focal point as per reports. The son frequently demanded money from Gandhi, citing loan repayments, which raised suspicion. The accused reportedly wanted to monitor every move of his wife. Charges under sections 354 (D) for stalking and 66 (E) for privacy violation have been brought against Gandhi.

Local reports suggested that Gandhi, a resident of Juhapura, acknowledged prolonged disagreements within the marriage during the interrogation. The couple had been living separately for five years, with their divorce case pending before a family court. Gandhi, a retired individual, previously operated a travel and tours business in the city. Their 27-year-old elder son resides in Canada.
